Kindle 3 Review – The Ultimate in Reading Pleasure
The Kindle 2 was so powerful that everybody thought that the only thing that can take Kindle 2 forward was just by adding color with a touch screen. But when Amazon came out with Kindle 3, everyone was in for a surprise. Nobody thought so much could be added to Kindle 2. In this Kindle 3 review we´ll discuss the benefits of the following improvements versus the Kindle 2.
- Larger memory
- 50% Better contrast for improved readability
- Better accessibility
- Ergonomically placed buttons
- Changeable and sharper fonts
- Page turns faster by 20%
- Improved PDF reading
- One month battery life
- Sleek and beautiful compact design
Amazon’s endeavor to provide its customers with the greatest reading experience can be seen in the Kindle 3, which is a living proof where nothing has been compromised. While everyone thought that adding color will be the only feature that will make the Kindle 3 progressive, Amazon’s thoughts were different:
- “Color does not improve the readability of the screen”.
- “Books are also written in black and white”.
And they were right. Color is a distraction and does not improve readability as we can only confirm in our Kindle 3 review.
Features – Software and Hardware
Kindle 3 has been made more portable by reducing its size to 7.5 x 4.8 x 1.335 inch. With this reduction in size the weight of the device has come down to 8.7 ounces and the e-ink screen has come down to 6 inches. As a result the device has become lighter, thinner and smaller which greatly improved the readability as we noticed in our Kindle 3 review.
Reduction is size does not mean every other features has been reduced. Instead Kindle 3 now has a memory that is double than its earlier version. And Kindle 3G+WiFi comes with a memory of 4GB, which means you can carry 3500 books in it at any given time.
.
Kindle 3 wireless does consume some amount of power. But if you turn off the wireless the battery of Kindle 3 can last up to one month without charging. Those who travel frequently need not worry about carrying the charger with them. If you plan a long vacation away from home you can forget about bringing the Kindle 3 charger with you.
.
The focus of improvement of Kindle 3 was on readability. Therefore Kindle 3G has been provided with an all new e-ink Pearl screen which has 50% added contrast. Readability has improved as you can read throughout this Kindle 3 review and the turning of page has become faster. If you find reading some font difficult, you can change the font type and also the line spacing according to your convenience.
.
The PDF reader that has been built-in is an improved version where you can write notes, highlight sentences and if you want to get the meaning of words you can do so in the dictionary. Pass-word protected files can also be accessed in Kindle 3. Moreover, Kindle 3 has been made to support scripts other than English, like Cyrillic, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
Pros
Amazon has been sensible in not adding video and animated games in Kindle 3 as those will distract the reader who would like to focus on simple reading. Though it is an upgraded version of Kindle2, with so many features added Kindle 3 is still priced at the old price at $189. Amazon has also arranged to have backup copy of the books that are in your Kindle 3, as a result if by chance you lose a book you can download it immediately it at any time.
.
You can share the books in Kindle 3 with other devices like iPod/iPhone, Mac, Blackberry, PC and android. With Kindle 3 you have free access to AT&T WiFi network which makes it possible for you to download faster. You can now also download audiobooks for free. The good thing about Kindle3 is that you can read in the dark with the help of the retractable light provided with the new cover.
Cons
Kindle 3 does not support color magazines and comics, these are rendered in grays. You cannot have book sharing in Kindle 3. No expansion slot has been provided.
